My Open Letter In Support of Chelsea Settles

So, yesterday I spent my night video chatting Whitney as we do often when we're bored. And while video chatting we usually search for the BEST things on YouTube (As of lately Sophia Grace has been winning). While searching, I ran into what I will call a "interesting" video of someone claiming to review MTV's show, "Chelsea Settles." Watching this video MADE ME CRINGE! It pissed me off SO bad that I wrote the individual a message on twitter. In the video she states that she only watched part of the first episode. So my tweet to her simply said, "I just watched your youtube video on #ChelseaSettles... Now than the show is coming to an end, has you opinion changed?" Well Miss Lady (Who I will not name since our blog gets more hits in a day than her videos get in a year), responded to me this morning with this, "I'll do a update!! I stayed true to my word :) I haven't watched it since. I do a complete explanation. I've seen interviews tho". Now let me preface this letter by saying, I was going to respond to her on twitter but what I have to say would not fit.

I am a HUGE supporter of the show and Chelsea herself. First, Let me tell you why I support the show. As a black, plus size, 20 something woman, it's good to see someone like me on MTV. Watching shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta, both of the Basketball Wives Shows, the Black Dating "Reality" Shows, I find myself complaining AND complaining often. Yelling, and fighting, and belittling each other is the only things that happen on those shows. And though I watch for purely entertainment reasons, I hate the picture the shows paint of black women living in America. I am happy that MTV found a positive show to balance out the foolishness we see on that channel and others. And I am even more happy that they chose Chelsea Settles to do it.

Anybody who follows Chelsea Settles on twitter, can see what an amazing person she is. In the video I watched, Miss Lady tried to say that MTV was talking advantage of someone with Low Self Esteem. Sweetie, what Chelsea did is was commendable. No, I have never hid fast food bags in my car or had to tell the WORLD my weight on TV. But if Chelsea had not shared this with us, she would not be able to help others like her! Chelsea is someone all plus size girls can identify with, maybe not with each thing she says and does but with something. The woman from the YouTube video is also overweight, and Boo, I refuse to believe that you have never been insecure about it or teased because of it or wished you were smaller than you are. THAT's what Chelsea Settles is about, facing those insecurities. Conquering obstacles in her everyday life. If you had watched longer than the first episode you would know that the show is not about weight loss at all. But rather, it's about overcoming things that restrict us, leaving our comfort zones so that we can progress in life, and trying new things.

If you actually spent time watching how Chelsea was moving instead of criticizing, you would know that some of the things you said in your video, she believes. She doesn't try to push weight loss on people. She tries to make people love the body that they are in. Because she knows if you don't love yourself fat, you will not love yourself skinny! I am sure it was difficult for her to go on TV and open up about her personal struggles. I watch day in and day out as Chelsea comforts, encourages, and uplifts the spirits of 20 something thousand twitter followers. One night, I don't know, at like 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning, a young girl, she couldn't have been more that 14 or 15 wrote Chelsea. The girl explain to Chelsea that she too was over weight and that she was struggling to say focused on her weight loss journey. Chelsea responded to the young girl in a tweet SERIES that took up at least like 7 or 8 tweets. Giving her tips, encouraging her that if she figured out the reasons that the weight gain started, that she would have no problem taking it off. I never told Chelsea, but her patience and understanding with that girl that night brought me to tears (Let Whit tell it, everything makes me cry). I soon realized that this is something Chelsea does on the daily. All MTV did was give Chelsea a platform to do what she has been called to do (cause the work she is doing could only be a gift from God).

Ever since that day, I try to tweet Chelsea as much as possible and tell her how amazing she is because maybe if I tell her how great she is everyday it will out shine the haters like you!

P.S. Do yourself a favor and save your update video. Since you claimed to have never watched the show after the first episode, you have nothing to update about.

P.P.S. And if after this letter you still don't feel compelled to support Chelsea, take a trip back to elementary school and remember if you don't have anything nice to say.... SHUT THE HELL UP!

ESQ: It was a pretty fascinating scene. Bodyguards, dancers, dozens of people who looked liked they had nothing to do. I saw Jay-Z duck into your dressing room.

RIHANNA: I was walking out as he walked in. He was like, "Yo!" I had my tea in one hand and my drink in the next.

ESQ: You drink them at the same time?

RIHANNA: One is tea and one is a shot. I usually like dark liquor — brandy or whiskey — but it's very high in sugar-content and I have some photo shoots coming up, so I had to switch it up to vodka.

ESQ: Do you live on your bus during a tour?

RIHANNA: I hate going to hotels when I'm on tour. I like to stay on the bus. I can sleep, I can shower, I can just pull up right to the venue everyday. I work out. I have a trainer. So, she trains me wherever, whenever. Touring messes with my metabolism, so I have to get tight.
ESQ: What do you eat on tour?

RIHANNA: I'm very stubborn when it comes to food. I don't like to try new things. When I came to America, there were so many different cultures and tastes. I haven't acquired a taste for a lot of things. Like, calamari? Jay-Z had to make me eat it. We have this thing called Taste Test Tuesdays or New Flavor Fridays or Substitute Saturdays.

ESQ: What happens in your dressing room before a show?

RIHANNA: I eat lozenges, steam my voice, do my makeup. I Skype my vocal coach and we sit there at the makeup table and do warm-ups for about a half-hour. Then, Jen, my personal assistant slash bartender, brings me a shot that she dilutes with a little something so it's not so harsh, like orange juice or soda water and lime.

ESQ: Why do you have the shot?

RIHANNA: I have to have it. I take it very seriously, so there is a level of anxiety, always. I overthink everything when it comes to my job. The drink calms my nerves. I sip it while I watch the opening act from my dressing room. Sometimes I go out into the audience. I put on a really big hoodie and sneak out there.

ESQ: What happens right before you go on?

RIHANNA: I say "House" and the lights go off. My head is down the entire time. I'm hearing the music and I know I only have like twelve seconds left to get into the cage, drink my water, finish the liquor, check my mic. Then I have like three seconds where I get to pray, again, for myself, and for the audience. I always pray for the crowd.

RIHANNA: Anything you want to know about what happens onstage?

ESQ: When you pull the guy out of the audience to do the lapdance routine, do you know who it's going to be be?

RIHANNA: It's never pre-planned.

ESQ: Who's the best candidate?

RIHANNA: The way I pick the person is, whoever I feel doesn't take themselves too seriously, or who I think would be majorly embarrassed about it. Like these old men... it's hilarious. At first, it was just going to be girls. And then one night, I brought up a gay guy, and then I started bringing up straight guys. Then I started bringing up older straight men. Did you see the one who was getting way too comfortable?...He was getting excited....We have pictures.

Who Says Scary Movies Can't Hurt You?

So paramedics were called to the set of "Resident Evil 5" this morning after the set collapsed. It seems that the crew was shooting a scene on stage that was on wheels. As the wheels moved the stage collapsed and the zombies went down. At least 16 of the zombies from the movie were injured. None of the injuries seem life threatening but broken bones are expected.

Scary movies just aren't safe... That's why I don't watch them.

I cook for him. He can cook, but I don't think he should have to. I'm a traditional wife in ever since. I like the fact that he cleans his plate. That's a southern thing. I'm from Georgia.

On if she's close with your new mother-in-law
Oh yeah! [Shannon interrupts with a big smile, “yes they are!”] He says we’re sickening. He’s always like, “you’ve been on the phone with her for two hours?” And then, our mothers are close too. We were looking for them for a whole two days before the wedding. They stayed gone and off shopping and doing their own things for two days.

When we really got very, very serious in our dating we took both our families to Cabo. We wanted to take them away from everyone and all the busy places and just really get to know each other. That was everybody’s first meeting. I’ve never gone more than 48 hours without talking to his mother since then. His mom loves her baby, but what’s so amazing about my mother-in-law is that she says I wanted someone to love my baby the way I love him, for him, whether he’s playing ball or doing something else; I want someone to love my son through and through and she met me and she said, “you’re the real deal.” We’re a lot alike. We like the same things. We go to a lot of the same places. We get lost together.

Will There Be a BEST MAN 2?

Universal has set Malcolm D. Lee to write, direct and produce Best Man 2, a sequel to the 1999 film. Lee wrote and directed the original, a comedy in which a writer (Taye Diggs) is preparing to be the best man for his football player buddy (Morris Chestnut), but the timing is bad because the writer’s autobiographical novel is about to pop and it describes how the best man bedded the bride. Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Nia Long and Sanaa Lathan also starred. The original grossed $35 million. Lee’s plan is to ask the original cast to reprise; in fact, I’m told the whole idea came out of a reunion dinner he held with most of the cast members, and they sparked to the idea of a re-team and so did the studio.

Now I loved the "Best Man" with all my heart. So now that they are doing a sequel... THEY BETTER DO IT RIGHT. #TheEnd

TMZ is reporting, allegedly, TeeTee was in the studio when some chick started talking slick about her bro Chris Breezy. And allegedly, TeeTee went Kanye West H.A.M. on the girl. Word is Teyana flipped out and punched the girl in the face until she went crashing to the ground. Then, Teyana stomped her with her boot. By the time the police arrived, Teyana had left. If this story is true, Teyana Taylor is the dumbest person in the world. Why?

1. Her career is finally kicking in to overdrive. She is with Kanye's Good Music, writing for Willow Smith, and in Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family.
2. I highly doubt that Chris Brown would risk his career for her. Let's be honest, as of recently Chris seems to only care about get his career back on track and I don't think he would risk that for her or anyone else. So why would she risk that for him?

I like Teyana Taylor, so I really hope it's untrue. Only time will tell.

Over the weekend in Collier County, Florida, Hersha Howard and her roommate had it out over Thin Mint Cookies. According to CBS News, Howard woke her roommate up on Sunday to find out what happened to her thin mints. The roommate tried explain that she let Howard's children eat the cookies because they were awake and hungry in the wee hours of the morning. Apparently, Howard had already explained to all residents that her cookies were off limits. Then, in an attempt to settle things, the roommate offered to pay $10 for the box of cookies that Howard's children ate.
